I’ve always found these “about me” sections to be horrifically self indulgent, so instead of a laundry list of achievements and boastful claims, I’ve settled on a much easier method – The Epitaph Approach… what will I be remembered for? I truly believe that impact you have on peoples lives at a personal level is infinitely more important than the titles you accumulate, thus, when people say jameshanley.ie, I want them to think;
“James helped change my life. He taught me how to eat and train correctly to get the fastest results possible and he distilled complicated information into easy to handle bite sized chunks. He motivated me to be the best person I could be, and as a result of his guidance I’ve never been as happy with my body as I am now”
I’ve spent the last 10 years reading, learning, studying and being guided by some of the best minds in the industry at home and abroad. I believe that with the right coaching and training, anyone can reach their goals, and that the key function of a personal trainer is to guide their client on the path to a healthier lifestyle – I don’t believe in superlative promises or using underhanded selling tactics to dupe my clients. The ultimate measure of a trainer is their results – no more, no less. I’ve a history of superior results, it is on that which I stake my reputation.
Having played junior level soccer and football at a high level during my teenage years, and competed and won national and world level powerlifting titles, and broke national, european and world records on my way – I understand how to integrate diverse training goals into an all encompassing physical transformation package.
I have trained at the national boxing stadium, spent the last 12 months training and competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the tuition of Barry Oglesby at Kyuzo Gym and have been coached by some of Ireland’s best weightlifters. I’ve used the diet methods I discuss with clients to cut over 20kg of bodyfat from my own body, and have had great success using the same method with others.
The diversity of my experience is unlike any other trainers.
I’m fully confident that anyone who choses to work with me will enjoy results beyond their wildest dreams.
And now for the self indulgent bit, here’s a few of my sporting/personal achievements over the last few years
–2006 IDFPA national teen powerlifting champion
–2007 WDFPF world junior powerlifting champion
–2007, 2009, 2010 IDFPA national junior powerlifting champion
–2010 senior and junior absolute Irish powerlifting champion
–2010 “second fittest man in Ireland” at Crossfit Ireland’s Fitness Invitational
–Personal bests 310kg squat, 210kg bench press and 272.5kg deadlift at under 100kg
–2011 Silver medal at Informed Performance’s submission wrestling tournament
There’s lots more, but that’s about the limited of how much I can talk about myself without feeling TOO narcissistic. So for now, here’s a video of my last competitive powerlifting competition where I won the national junior and overall titles en route to breaking a 12 year old national record – hard work pays off!!
